The Ceriatone Overtone Special “183” 100 is a clone of a very unique “D” amplifier that marked the transition from high-plate non-HRM amplifiers to the HRM topology that featured EL34s.
If you’re familiar with the circuit design of “D” amplifiers, you’ll notice how…err…different #183 is. With it’s EL34 power tubes, lack of negative feedback on V1B, barely-there snubber caps on V2, and other departures…183 gives a glimpse into the tonal evolution of one of the most legendary amp builders.
Tonally, 183 sits somewhere between the fatness of the high-plate Skyline and the clarity and harmonic smear of the HRM. Yeah, we know how esoteric that sounds. You’ll understand when you play it.
