The classic American amplifiers of the ‘50s and ‘60s inspired us to create the, errrrr, American Classic series.
The Ceriatone 5E8-A amplifier is based on the tweed-covered amplifier of the same designation. This amplifier was made in the ‘50s, and is frequently referred to as the “low power” version of the 2×12 combo. This amplifier is a personal favorite of guitar gods Eric Clapton and David Gilmour.
The 5E8-A uses dual 5U4G rectifiers for a more stout response than the other tweed-era amplifiers, but is not as clean as the “high powered” brother. Compared to the other tweed designs, this has a slightly different preamp that allows for slightly more gain, and we recommend substituting the 12AY7 in the Bright channel for a higher gain 12AX7.
We find this amplifier to be one of the true greats of pure tone, with a guitar+amp combination that is rivaled by few amplifiers. We love this amplifier so much we sought to bring it to players the world over.
Like other Ceriatone amps, we have labored carefully to select the finest components to suit the design, and the 5E8-A uses our specially designed custom transformers for superior reliability, frequency response, and feel.
