The classic American amplifiers of the ‘50s and ‘60s inspired us to create the, errrrr, American Classic series.
The Ceriatone 5X3 amplifier is based on the 5E3, a dual 6V6 1×12 combo made in the mid and late ‘50s. For many guitarists, the 5E3 is a deserted island amplifier, capable of producing some of the most sought after tones in jazz, blues, country, and rock.
However, for Yngwie-minded guitarists (“more is more”), we offer the 5X3, a higher-powered 5E3 utilizing 6L6s, a GZ34 tube rectifier, and a larger output transformer. Compared to the 5E3, the 5X3 is capable of producing more stout low frequencies, and has a slightly different midrange and treble signature due to the 6L6 tubes and output transformer.
Much like the 5E3, though, the 5X3 lends itself to thick clean tones that suit single-coil guitars particularly well, and as it is turned up creates an extremely thick, harmonic-laden overdriven tone. While it can still be fairly loud, this is a great amp for home, studio, and gigs of nearly all practical sizes. We have added a 3-way NFB switch to further tune the response of the power amplifier to your needs, while staying true to the overall vibe of the amplifier.
Like other Ceriatone amps, we have labored carefully to select the finest components to suit the design, and the 5X3 uses our specially designed custom transformers for superior reliability, frequency response, and feel.
